Trio Old Swengi call gypsy swing, which stylishly combines the captivating swing music of the 30s and 40s, French musette waltzes and the virtuoso and emotional playing style of the guitarists. The program also includes a wide selection of old Finnish music from the 30s-70s arranged in swing style.
Band members Thomas Lehto (guitar, vocals), Kyösti Aalto (double bass) and Tomi Kettunen (guitar) together create music that takes the listener on a journey back to the good old days. The band cites as its role models Tchavolo Schmitt, Biréli Lagrène and above all Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, who developed their own unique style with their band Quintette du Hot Club de France.
Wanha Swengi regularly performs gigs around Finland, e.g. At Storyville in Helsinki, Paapan Kapaka in Tampere. The band members have also been a familiar sight at many jazz festivals, including At the Pori Jazz, Kaamosjazz and Baltic Jazz festivals. The band can also be booked for private events, and wedding couples, for example, have been very enthusiastic about Wanhan Sweng's music. It's very danceable and upbeat!
